Welcome to My Composer’s Journey – Exploring the Ups and Downs of Starting Over
Hello! I’m Trevor. For the past couple of decades, I’ve been teaching music to local students—and now, teaching online globally. It’s been incredibly fulfilling, and because I love it, I have no intention of stopping. I’ve helped students across Canada, the U.S., the U.K., and Australia learn piano, theory, and how to enjoy music on their own terms. But recently, I’ve carved out some space to return to a creative hobby I left behind years ago to focus on my career: composing.
Even though I studied composition in the past, coming back to it now feels a lot like starting from square one. And honestly? That’s part of what makes it exciting. This category isn’t about polished answers or professional advice—it’s about the process of relearning, experimenting, and seeing what unfolds when you come back to something with a new set of eyes.
What This Category Is About
There’s something meaningful about starting over. After 25 years (and counting) of focusing on teaching, I’m now carving out time to explore composition again. This category is where I document that process—sharing thoughts, milestones, and missteps as I rediscover my old hobby.
If you’re rekindling a creative passion or picking up where you left off years ago, this space might feel familiar and become a place to grow creatively. It’s not about getting everything perfect (I’m not sure such a thing even exists, although many of us strive for it). It’s about showing some dedication, being honest in your creativity, and enjoying the adventure of exploring this musical world we live in.
